Famous Indian Painter MF Hussain died Photos, MF Hussain dies in London, M F Husain dead at 95m


London, Jun 9: Maverick artist and the most prominent figure in Indian Contemporary Art, Maqbool Fida Husain, popularly called M F Hussain is no more.

According to media reports, he died at the Royal Brompton hospital in London on Thursday at 2:30am. Aged 95, Hussain was on a self-imposed exile and living in Qatar. He died of lung congestion.

He had faced the ire of right wing groups for his bold portrayal of Hindu deities, especially the Shiv Sena and VHP. He also faced death threats. Saddened and often vocal of the treatment meted out to him by India, he was often quoted as saying that India will always be his home.

Reports say that he died of heart attack. Twitter and other social media platforms are abuzz with news of the artist's death.

Maqbool Fida Husain, India's best known painter who went into exile after being hounded by Hindu groups, died in London on Thursday at age 95, a close friend of the artist told Reuters.

Referred to as the "Picasso of India" by the Forbes magazine, he grabbed headlines recently when one of his paintings sold for a whopping Rs 2.32 crore at the Bonham's auction in London.
