Actress and television anchor Mandira Bedi, who is pregnant with her first child, will now promote stem cell banking.
The 39-year-old has become the brand ambassador for Cryo-Save, one of the largest adult stem cell storage bank.
"Stemcells can be used to treat various life threatening diseases. Parents take various steps to ensure safe and secure future of their child. One small, but very significant step towards securing the health of your child is by storing the stem cells of your new born," Bedi said.
The Shanti star is married to Bollywood director Raj Kaushal for twelve years now and the couple announced in January this year that Mandira is expecting her first child.
"When a child is born, parents open a savings bank account to ensure the financial and educational future of the newborn. In my opinion, banking the stem cells of the newborn is equally important as it helps in insuring the medical future of the child," Kaushal said.
Rajesh Sharma, MD, Cryo-Save India, said, "We welcome Mandira Bedi to the Cryo-Save family and look forward to a long and successful relationship. The potential role of stem cells in treating certain life threatening diseases is being explored. This is the best gift that parents can give to their children."
Clinical trials related to stem cells is being conducted across various government and private medical institutions in the country. It is being tried for cure of liver diseases, kidney, cardiovascular diseases and bone marrow transplantations amongst others.
